Classic Corner
Bruce Widdowson
| The Nottingham Sports Car Club was founded in 1948 the inaugural meeting was a Concourse at Hazelford Ferry by the River Trent midway between Nottingham and Newark. The Clubs first Sprint was in that year at Rufford Abbey, followed by another at Gamston Airfield, which was subsequently used for motor racing between 1949 and 1952 inclusive, although the Clubs first race was actually at Langar Airfield in 1948. |
 |
Following this tradition of racing, sprinting and for a time, rallying, auto-cross and driving tests , the Club has always had more than a passing interest in Classic and Concourse events over the years. The current Presidents Shield awarded to the winning concourse car at Thoresby Park each year in modern times, was first presented whilst the club was still racing in the 70s. Today there is also a Master Class at Thoresby for previous winners of the Presidents Shield competing for the Ernest Twigger Memorial Cup. This event is superbly organised each year by David Cope, who was a marshal at our early race meetings at Gamston Airfield. |

Sprinting
The core activity of the Club has been sprinting since 1980 and a natural evolvement was the creation of a Classic Competition within the overall Club Championship the winner in 2006 was Stewart Scott in a Triumph TR4. The NSCC committee is working hard at the current time to expand this class.
- NEW CLASSIC SPRINT COMPETITORS ARE VERY WELCOME

Mallory Park
Also in 2006, the Club joined forces with British Automobile Racing Club, the current operator of Mallory Park, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the NSCC opening the venue in May 1956. This involved an impressive display and two circuit parades of classics within the special race meeting.
